My son took guitar lessons for six years at UM Community School of Music and he gained a vast amount of knowledge in technique and theory. He had the opportunity to work with a renowned classical guitarist and professor. We are so fortunate to have a school of this caliber right here in Shelby County! I highly recommend it.
My daughter takes voice and piano at Montevallo's Community School of Music. Her knowledge in both areas increased and she loves performing. I've been impressed with the level of patience and guidance the instructors show towards their students. They love furthering their students knowledge, regardless of the student's experience or skill level. They welcome both beginner and advanced.
I received piano lessons through the UM Community School from grades 9-12. I studied under Dr. Bean and Dr. Jones. Knowing I would not being pursuing piano as a career, both professors focused on strengthening my knowledge of music theory in our lessons. As a result, I was more than ready to begin my university studies as a music major; in fact, I was able to test out of taking any piano courses that were required for my degree. The quality of the teaching that one receives from this program is the highest in the area.
Both my children took lessons at UM's Community School of music--piano, clarinet, ukulele, and trumpet. All their instructors were talented, patient, and wonderful teachers. The recitals were very positive experiences. How amazing to have the opportunity to play a Steinway in Lebaron Hall! I am so glad to have this amazing resource in our community. Highly recommend!
I feel that the community school of music does a wonderful job at offering a wide variety of musical options for students. It doesn't matter what age you are or instrument you play. You are valued as a musician at any level!
