My husband and I travel extensively and have never, in all of our travels, been treated as horribly as we were treated by the owner of the Fox & Pheasant Inn. She not only rented out our room that we had booked several weeks prior but she ruined our anniversary and caused us considerable inconvenience given that we drove hundreds of miles from another state to Montevallo, AL specifically to celebrate our eleventh anniversary at the inn. We arrived well before check in and were told that someone else -- a couple that had not yet arrived -- had requested our room for a longer stay and so she had given it to them, despite having already rented it to us weeks prior. She didn't even have the decency to apologize! I should add that we had communicated with the owner, both verbally and in writing, multiple times prior to the trip and had explained to her that this was an anniversary trip and that staying in Montevallo was important and held a great deal of sentimental value for us because I was a student at the University of Montevallo when I met my husband, and that's where we had our first date. Unfortunately, the Montevallo inn in which we had previously stayed to celebrate our anniversaries closed this past year so the Fox & Pheasant Inn was our only remaining option in Montevallo (a small college town), thus the owner's unprofessional behavior forced us to stay somewhere other than Montevallo for our anniversary. We had requested the East Room, and we specifically explained that it was important for us to have that particular room because it is the only room with a couch and with a large tub, which we needed because our long-time anniversary traditions include sitting on a couch while cuddling and sipping champagne as well as taking a candlelit bubble bath together. The owner assured us that the room was available and that she would have it ready for us on December 16, yet when we arrived she then told us that she had decided to rent the room to someone else -- someone who had called but not yet arrived -- who wanted it for a longer period. In short, she let greed get in the way of being professional and honoring the reservation she had alread made with us. She knew we had driven all the way from another state, she knew that this was a special anniversary trip, and she neither cared nor apologized. This is the epitome of unprofessionalism, and my husband and I plan to let everyone know that this woman cannot be trusted, she is not professional and does not honor her word nor her own reservations, and that you cannot count on receiving the room you've booked. Beware of this inn and this owner!
My husband and I had plans to be in Montevallo to visit with some friends from college and decided to stay the night at the Fox and Pheasant. Janice was wonderful. She showed us to our room right away and we talked a bit about our plans for the evening. She asked what time we wanted breakfast that next day and offered up some delicious sounding options. We opted for the Eggs Benedict. The next morning we went downstairs for breakfast, there was hot coffee, water and fresh fruit awaiting us. The Eggs Benedict soon followed along with some creamy grits. I should have gotten a picture of the beautiful presentation, including fresh summer tomatoes, but I dove right in to the plate. Everything was amazing and we had a lovely conversation with Janice during our meal and after while we were still enjoying our coffee. We will definitely be back for a weekend getaway, and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique experience in Montevallo!
